SHE FOUGHT LIKE A TIGER FOR 'ER 'ONOUR
by
Haines/Harper

Performed by
Gracie Fields

She was a country maiden and 'e was the Squire's son
But a villain of the deepest die was 'e,
She fell for 'is endearments and she thought 'e was a one
But 'e was just as bad as bad could be.
They courted in the farmyard every night at half past six
She trusted him 'til one dark night... he tried 'is monkey tricks...

She fought like a tiger for 'er 'onour
For 'er 'onour, for 'er 'onour.
She fought like a tiger for 'er 'onour
But the villain still pursued her to the end!

'E promised 'e would wed 'er and she thought he'd keep 'is word
So forgave 'im 'cos' he'd such a winning way
But one night in the moonlight after mixing lemon curd
She walked with 'im through fields of new mown hay,
When near a five barred gate, he said, 'Let's rest a while on this.'
The trouble started once again when he said, 'Give us a kiss!'

She fought like a tiger for 'er 'onour
He said, 'Gert yer... I won't 'urt yer!'
She fought like a tiger for 'er 'onour
But the villain still pursued her to the end!

Once more he tried his nonsense at the Squire's Christmas ball
While the village band was playing 'Tiger Rag'
She'd been drinking gin and cider, port and shandy cap an' all
Then he gave her a doped egyptian fag.
She didn't mind him shaking hands when it was time to go
But when he tried to kiss her underneath the mistletoe...

She fought like a tiger for 'er 'onour
For 'er 'onour, for 'er 'onour.
She fought like a tiger for 'er 'onour
But the villain still pursued her to the end!
