THEY DON'T LIKE IT UP 'EM, YOU KNOW
by Don Jones You can see the way I stand that I'm a soldier of the Queen The stories of my battles I'll reveal. The Fuzzy Wuzzies charge at us, the sergeant yells "Stand firm!" "We'll give these heathen blighters cold hard steel. Cause they don't like it up 'em you know. Well I'm an old soldier, and that's the Status Quo We wait till we see the whites of their eyes It's fright'ning to hear their blood curdling cries. But we hold up our weapons, shouting, "Try this for size" Cause they don't like it up 'em you know. I've served with Gen'ral Kitchener, with Gen'ral Gordon too When the fight is at its height we bare the brunt. Our Gen'rals plan the battles, mostly at the rear, But they always keep their privates to the front. Cause they don't like it up 'em you see, We form up to fight in columns of three. Up gallops our C.O. a sword at his hip He shouts "Come on lads, tally ho and pip pip!" "Keep well up in front with stiff upper lip!" Cause they don't like it up 'em you know You have to be so careful when you're serving in the east The place is full of rogues and thieves and robbers. In the old bazaar in Cairo a villain stole my watch But I caught him in the street by the cobblers. Well they don't like it up 'em you know When it comes to quick action, well I'm not so slow. In the market place I chased him, down by the stalls. And finally I caught him in the street of high walls, Then I took out my bayonet and cut off his retreat Cause they don't like it up 'em you know. There's a motto in our army, ev'ry man must do or die. His duty to his regiment is clear. You always stand your ground ands never turn your back Cause the enemy may suddenly turn queer. Cause they don't like it up 'em you know We always obey when they tell us where to go. We wait for the charge, in our captain we trust, Stand firm is the order, as the foe bites the dust. Then we send them all packing with a quick upward thrust Cause they don't like it up 'em you know If you're looking for adventure and a chance to be a man. Go and join the army right away. It will build up your muscles and put hair upon your chest. As you march into battle you will say They don't like it up 'em you know It's the war cry of soldiers when facing the foe. Marching into battle, beating drums and sounding brass The medals jingling on your chest are shining just like glass When they ask you where you're going, say "Up the Khyber Pass" Cause they don't like it up 'em you know.
