ALL THE YEAR ROUND

This life never changes the days come and go
You get up each morning and rush to and fro
You swallow your breakfast and dash for the train
And find that as usual you've missed it again.

Chorus: All the year round, all the year round
You're doing it all the year round
You think of your wife as you left her in bed
Too late to bid her good-bye, so you said
So you ring for your typist and kiss her instead
All the year round, all the year round.

You go out to lunch for the same current bun
You get to the club when the day's work is done
You stagger back homewards with faltering feet
And ring every knocker you find in the street.

Chorus: All the year round, all the year round
You enter with hardly a sound
You take off your boots, then you tread on the cat
You creep to the bedroom and throw in your hat
Then it's thrown out again, so you sleep on the mat
All the year round, all the year round.

This Government governs the same as the rest
They'd steal a dead fly of a blind spider's chest
They take half a mile when you give them an inch
They're second to none when it comes to a pinch.

Chorus: All the year round, all the year round
No rest for the wicked is found
The hustle and bustle of life doesn't cease
Your worries and troubles are on the increase
Yet down in Whitehall there is peace, perfect peace
All the year round, all the year round.

You fellows go courting in just the same way
Your bird seems to dress more like Eve every day
And mother gets bingled and goes on the spree
While granny plays tennis and dances till three.

Chorus: All the year round, all the year round
It's raining, you're soaked and you're drowned
Winkles are on the look out for their pins
Sardines form fours and pack into their tins
While young kippers get married and keep having twins
All the year round, all the year round.

And so it goes on and you grouse and complain
You're baked in the sunshine and drowned in the rain
You're down on your uppers, you're less than the dust
You're broke and you're busted, you're cussed and discussed.

Chorus: All the year round, all the year round
Yes, life is a merry-go-round
Your friends come and see you and stop a few days
Then go to their homes by their various ways
But your mother-in-law when she comes always stays
All the year round, all the year round.
