THE CUCKOO

div

Mary Jane was her name, I met her in the park
She remarked as we strolled along
'Come and list to the cuckoo's song'
I said, 'How do you know where the cuckoo will be?'
She replied, 'I can find the Cuckoo whenever I like, you see.'

Chorus: So we sat beneath a tree, and I heard a cuckoo cuckoo
Then the girl turned round to me
And said, 'I've found the Cuckoo, you see.'
But when I'd left Mary Jane, I missed my watch and chain
Then I knew that Jane had found another Cuckoo.

She said, 'Look at the sun, setting there in the West'
While I gazed at the setting sun,
That's when her dirty work was done
Had the sun set above, then the sly little beast
Might have stolen my diamond pin
And it's worth one-and-six at least.
