THE CURATE

div

Now the people of a pretty little village
For a pious little curate were in search
They wanted quite a model one, a youthful one, a pretty one
To ornament their pretty little church
They didn't want a curate over forty
For the ladies wanted one whom they could tame
And they got one, a charming little creature
That they really were delighted when he came
Yes, they really were delighted when he came.

Chorus: First he appeared as a curate, such a very, very good young man
And then he disappeared with a large amount of cash
This very, very good young man
Next he appeared with a full grown beard
But some officers of law were on his track
Now he's appearing in a different sort of garb
With some pretty little arrows down his back.

Now the people of this very pretty little village
All thought of what a treasure they had got
He said they all delighted him, so the ladies all invited him
To tea, 'twould have been better had they not
For he told them he'd a brother in the city
Who dealt in stocks and shares, then presently
He got for them such useful information
That he put them in the Court of Bankruptcy
Yes, he put them in the Court of Bankruptcy.

Chorus:

Now the people of this very pretty village
All got in such a state of mind
That he said he'd try to put them straight, and loans for them negotiate
How good of him, how very very kind
So he took from them their large and small deposits
And for London Town he started straight away
But straight-jackets, not the loans, are what they needed now
For the village has not seen him since that day
No, the village has not seen him since that day.
