FOLKSTONE FOR THE DAY

Twenty ladies, I was one of 'em, all intent on having a spree
Went to Folkestone for a holiday, dabbled our tootsies in the sea
It's a place where costers seldom go
Look on us as low, Stuck up lot, you know
I said, 'Come girls, we'll upset the show.'
So off we started for the day, with all our blokes in tow.

Chorus: And they haven't got over it yet, you bet,we livened up the Town
We painted Folkestone beautiful red, and came back lovely brown
The would-be-if-they-could-be toffs, they wished us miles away
Oh! didn't we 'ave a pantomime at Folkestone for the day.

In the water we went paddling, up to here, a-having a splosh
My old geezer went a-waddling like a porpoise 'aving a wash
We got dry, and wanted pots o' malt
Wasn't our fault, 'Briny' is so salt
Landlord stopped us, ordered us to halt
Turned us from the private bar, and started the assault.

Chorus: And they haven't got over it yet, you bet,we livened up the Town
We painted Folkestone beautiful red, and came back lovely brown
The landlord got two 'mousers' and the deuce there was to pay
Oh! didn't we 'ave a pantomime at Folkestone for the day.

Roundabouts we couldn't see any, swings there wasn't a sign of a trace
Only Lord and Lady Thingummy la-di-dah-da-ing round the place
I goes up when I sees a grinning 'slop'
And sez, 'D'yer know a shop- a sort of threepenny hop?'
He sez, 'No' so on the beach we stopped
And forty voices let it go, 'A little bit off the top.'

Chorus: And they haven't got over it yet, you bet,we livened up the Town
We painted Folkestone beautiful red, and came back lovely brown
All our petticoats bust the strings, still we jigged away
Oh! didn't we 'ave a pantomime at Folkestone for the day.

After tea we all went trolloping round the place a-sampling beer
Lisa Green she started walloping some old dowager on the peer
One young swell said, 'Blackguard lot, I'm sure
Worst I evah saw, should be stopped by law'
Bill lands out and caught him on the jaw
An' tooth an' nail we went for 'em, and 'outed' near a score.

Chorus: And they haven't got over it yet, you bet,we livened up the Town
We painted Folkestone beautiful red, and came back lovely brown
We chucked a policeman in the sea, who had too much to say
Oh! didn't we 'ave a pantomime at Folkestone for the day.
