When ere I go to sleep at night I have such fearful dreams The things that happen to me make me waken up with screams Last night I dreamt I went to the works of Mr Kirk And thought that I was fool enough to go and ask for work. Chorus: And I'm afraid to go to sleep again I am, so 'elp me bob I'm afraid to go to sleep again For fear I'll get the job. I dreamt I was in Yankeeland, my misery was complete I thought I'd got a job to shove the armour on the meat Upon a lump of potted meat my little boots had tripped And in the chopping up machine I very nearly slipped. Chorus: I'm afraid to go to sleep again Although I'm awful thin I'm afraid to go to sleep again In case wake up in a tin. When Adam in the garden slept he had no thought of strife Till someone pinched one of his ribs and made of it a wife And since that day that female rib would never leave his side They tell as Adam kicked himself and to the serpent cried. Chorus: I'm afraid to go to sleep again I am, and that's no fib I'm afraid to go to sleep for fear They'd pinch the other rib. |
