IT'S GOING TO BE A SERIOUS THING FOR ENGLAND

No doubt that half of England is going down the hill
And the country will soon be upon the shelf
But I know a man who could save the Empire if he would
But I don't like to talk about meself
Since it has been rumoured that I'm going to resign
The consels they have dropped to twenty one
I know they don't think I'm of very much importance now
But you see where England will be when I'm gone.

Chorus: It's going to be a serious thing for England
I sent me resignation in today
The years in the war I've strived and done me best
Still they take no notice what I say
Well, now England's done for, things are looking very very glum
I've tried until I'm tired, so I've made up my mind at last
To jack it up and let the Germans come.

Yesterday from Asquith I received a little note
Asking me so kindly not to go
He said, 'Bill don't be rash, avoid this awful crash
Save the country from the dreadful blow.'
He knows that if I resign that dear old England's number's up
That's the reason why he's so annoyed
For if the Germans come and put the kibosh on the Empire
Lloyd George and him will join the unemployed.

Chorus: It's going to be a serious thing for England
I sent me resignation in today
The years in the war I've strived and done me best
Still they take no notice what I say
Well, now Englands done for, things are looking very very glum
I've tried until I'm tired, so I've made up my mind at last
To jack it up and let the Germans come.

I've given them the option to apologise to me
On those conditions only will I stay
But they haven't done, and so I'm determined I shall go
As Churchill says, it is the only way
And when I'm gone, no longer will Britannia rule the waves
She's sure to lose the freedom she enjoys
And in time you'll see that England's only industry will be
Making German sausages and toys.

Chorus: It's going to be a serious thing for England
Very soon she won't be on the Earth
The moment that I terminate my military career
He'll simply realise what I was worth
Well then England's done for, still that doesn't worry me a rap
For Germany's just waiting till they see if I've resigned
Then they'll come and wipe the country off the map.
