RIDING ON THE NEW ELECTRIC CAR

I've got a terrible tale of woe to tell
For friends listen for a bit
It'll make a tear-drop start from every eye
Right from the Gallery to the Pit
Poor Jane was sent on an errand to buy some Jam
She rode from Camberwell on the halfpenny tram
Tram was full, she held on the strap
Lost her balance and fell in the lap
Of an old gent who was riding in the tram car
Then she fell with such a crash and broke her jam-jar.

Chorus: All through riding on the new electric car
She spoilt her callico's and prints
Lost her balance at the Elephant and Castle
And she hasn't been the same girl since.

Poor Jane as soon as she missed the strap and fell
The old gent who rode inside the tram
He saw the raspberry down his waistcoat
And he murmured something that rhymes with jam
And when the conductor came in to take the fares
He shouted, 'This is a pretty fine state of affairs'
'What is all the bother?' said he
'This will mean a summons for me.'
What's up then?' cried the driver of the tram car
When a kid replied 'The lady's broke her jam-jar.'

Chorus: All through riding on the new electric car
She spoiled her callico's and prints
Lost her balance at the Elephant and Castle
And she hasn't been the same girl since.
