A RING ON THE TELEPHONE

A story of a love romance
'Twas not so very long ago
Two lovers they were looking in a window
Of a jeweler's shop, you know
'Ah, that's the ring I'm going to buy.'
Said the fellow, as he winked his eye
'I promise you, love, that you shall have one soon.'
But the girl made only this reply,

Chorus: 'Say, when shall I ever get the ring you promised me, Joe
The first time you promised me a ring was five years ago
You'll have to buy one, very soon, if you want me on your own
The only ring you gave me was
Well? - when you rang me on the phone.'

His loved one she surprised him so
He really knew not what to do
But said, 'Till now, I never saw a ring, dear
That was good enough for you.'
He bought the ring for Mary Jane
Then, with joy, she nearly went insane
I don't think Mary would have had one now
If she hadn't mentioned this Refrain: ,

Chorus: 'Say, when shall I ever get the ring you promised me, Joe
The first time you promised me a ring was five years ago
You'll have to buy one, very soon, if you want me on your own
The only ring you gave me was
Well? - when you rang me on the phone.'
