THERE’S A GIRL INSIDE

Now you really can't understand why a bar is in great demand
You can't make it clear. They sell awful bad beer,
And a whiskey of uncertain brand
There's a hotel over the way, and what they sell is alright
Yet business is awful. You'd think it's unlawful,
The other is packed every night
There's a girl inside, there's a girl inside
Some little Maudy, Jane or Kitty -
Some little maid who is smart and pretty
She serves out the mick, which you drink up quick
And wonder why you haven't died
Yet you go there again and the reason is plain
There's a girl inside.

When a journey you have to go, on the platform you wait you know
A train then steams in, and the porters
Begin to bustle about to and fro
There's a carriage that's right behind. All attention it gains, you'll find
You seem quite neglected. It's as you expected
When you see that they've drawn down the blind
There's a girl inside, there's a girl inside
Some little Maudy, Jane or Kitty -
Some little maid who is smart and pretty
The porter is told, as he's tipped with gold
Just see we're alone on this ride
Then if he locks the door you can always make sure
There's a girl inside.
