WE ARE THE SISTERS GEE-UP

Johnny Danvers

We are highly respectable sisters we are,
And a jolly good job for us!
And we never go anywhere without our Mamma,
And a jolly good job for us!
But somehow we got on the Music Hall stage,
And a jolly good job for us!
Kicked up our footsies and now we're the rage,
That's a very good job for us!

1st Chorus: For we are the girls of today,
Yes, we are the girls of today,
We're the darlingest pets,
And we smoke cigarettes,
For we are the girls of today!

The swells have deserted the theatre stalls,
And a jolly good job for us!
And come every night to variety halls,
And a jolly good job for us!
An actress, in vain, for employment may seek,
And a jolly good job for us!
While we got a job at a hundred a week,
That's a very good job for us!

2nd Chorus: Highty, highty, tighty, tighty,
Kick up a howling noise,
We are the rowdy dowdy set,
Of the glorious guzzling boys;
Fill up your glasses lads again,
We are the guzzling gentlemen,
The only perfect gentlemen,
The Glorious Guzzling boys!

The songs that we sing always go with a bang,
And a jolly good job for us!
They're spiced with a tit-bit of Whitechapel slang,
And a jolly good job for us!
The music is pretty, which goes for a lot,
And a jolly good job for us!
But the words are what's vulgarly called 'Tommy Rot',
That's a very good job for us!

3rd Chorus: We are the rortiest Whitechapel gals,
We're honest and work all the day,
And Harry and georgey, they are our two pals,
They always treat us when dry,
Often we go to the paragon show,
That's just as good as the 'Pav',
When we're inside, it's all right you know,
For the first thing is, 'What will you have?'

We have wedding rings brought to us by the swells,
And a jolly good job for us!
They all want to ring the variety belles,
And a jolly good job for us!
If they're old, well, they'll die, so it don't matter much,
And a jolly good job for us!
To be called a Duchess when one's an old Dutch,
That's a very good job for us!

4th Chorus: Rowing up the lake with Charlie,
Spooning on the lake with Ted,
With Teddy and Charlie parley,
Soon we shall both get wed.
Rowing on the lake with Charlie,
Spooning on the lake with Ted,
With Teddy and Charlie parley,
Soon we shall both be wed.

For we are the Sisters Gee Up, Gee up!
The latest variety belles;
We are the tarts that worry the hearts,
Of the greatest society swells.
They pat their kid gloves,
And they say we are loves,
And the gallery yells with delight,
For we are the Sisters Gee Up, Gee Up!
And we knock 'em as high as a kite!
