Chorus: Where was Mabel When the Band struck up? Nobody seemed to know 'Mabel' her friends all cried 'Where ever did she go?' In the summer house they found her Along with cousin Jim She was busy with a needle and thread Sewing on a button for him. It was Miss Mabel's party, and the guests felt somewhat vexed To think their host was not there, said they, 'Whatever next.' And when Miss Mabel did turn up the single fellows thought They'd like to be, like cousin Jim, a little button short. Chorus: It was Miss Mabel's party, and the missing pair were chaffed Miss Mabel blushed a rosy pink, her cousin only laughed They're married now and happy, as of course you will suppose And insead of sewing buttons Mabel's sewing baby clothes.
